We are a growing church in the heart of downtown Fullerton, passionate about loving God and loving others in Jesus’ name.
We have a big vision: “To see our lives and our cities transformed with the love of Jesus Christ.” The great story of the Bible centers around this amazing truth: God loves us and is committed to restoring and healing our broken lives and world through Jesus Christ. He invites us, his church, to participate with him in seeing his kingdom come, his will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Our Mission is how our Vision gets worked out. We seek to join God in his transforming work in the world by living as followers of Jesus. Specifically, this involves organizing our lives around three main goals:
The Upward Journey: Being with Jesus
The Inward Journey: Becoming like Jesus
The Outward Journey: Doing what Jesus did
Our dream is that as we live in this way, our lives, our communities, and our cities will be transformed.
Our name has particular meaning to us. It doesn’t mean that we love wine or grape juice (though some of us do). We are called The Vine Church because Jesus said:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Jesus uses the vibrant imagery of a grapevine to communicate the truth that he is the source of life, and that our highest call is to “remain,” or stay close, to him. Therefore, as a church, Jesus is at the center of all that we do. He is our life, our vision, our hope, and the focus of our worship and devotion.
Our church is centered around the following core values:
Safe Harbor: We are a community where everyone is welcome. Whatever your faith background, spiritual tradition, or lack thereof; whatever your belief system or doubts, ethnicity, culture, or marital status – we want this to be a safe place for you to belong, even before you believe.
Intimacy with God: We seek to make God the center of our lives. Our greatest privilege is our enjoyment of an intimate and profound relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Deep Discipleship: We don’t merely profess faith. We seek to follow Jesus in such a way that, over time, we experience deep, beneath-the-surface transformation in our lives, so that we can become more truly who God has created us to be. And we believe the best context for this is community.
The Gospel: We value, hold to, and declare the good news of what God has done in Jesus.
Compassion for the Poor: We value and express God’s heart of compassion for the poor, through works of compassion and justice.
The Power of the Spirit: We seek to rely on and experience the power of God's Spirit in us and through us. This leads us to live lives of bold, expectant prayer.
“3 Streams” Worship: Undergirding all of these values is our desire to live lives and worship God in a way that is simultaneously Word-centered, Spirit-empowered, and Rooted in the practices of historic Christian worship.
The Vine launched weekly services in the fall of 2012, and was planted by Michael & Ansley Swanson, along with a small group of friends who felt called by God to birth a fresh expression of church in downtown Fullerton.
